Background

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking bids for unplanned tree trimming services within the Salem District. This contract aims to enhance safety along primary and secondary highway rights-of-way in various counties including Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, and Roanoke. The services include brush cutting, tree pruning, and small tree removal as needed.

Work Details

The contractor will provide supervision, labor, equipment, fuel, and traffic control necessary for the following tasks: 1. Brush cutting and removal of all woody vegetation less than two inches in diameter. 2. Tree pruning to meet specific goals as defined by ANSI A-300 standards. 3. Removal of small trees (2 to 6 inches in diameter) from the right-of-way. 4. Disposal of all debris generated from these activities. 5. Work will be performed on a shoulder mile basis along designated routes as specified in work orders issued by VDOT. The contractor must commence work within ten calendar days of award and respond to service requests within 48 hours.

Period of Performance

The contract will be for a period of one year from the date of award with potential for renewal.

Work will be performed within the Salem District along primary and secondary highways in Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski and Roanoke Counties.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must submit a Small Business Subcontracting Plan if not certified as a small business by the Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity at the time of bid closing. Additionally, contractors must have sufficient qualified personnel available throughout the contract period and ensure that all crew members are certified in flagging operations.
