Wastewater Improvements Ses & Ores

Background

Bedford County Public Schools (BCPS) is undertaking a project to improve wastewater systems at Stewartsville and Otter River Elementary Schools. The goal of this contract is to upgrade the existing wastewater systems as outlined in the design documents, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and operational efficiency.

Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for the following tasks: 1. **Sitework**: Installation of approximately 75 LF of 6' chain link fence around the dosing tank and septic areas, modification of existing site fencing, and adding fill material at the dosing tank. 2. **Dosing Tank**: Dewater and clean existing dosing tanks, remove dosing siphons, seal pipe outlets, install duplex pumps, valve vaults, control panels, conduit for electrical service, and hoists. An aluminum or FRP cover will also be installed over openings in the dosing tank. 3. **Sand Filters**: Remove existing splitter boxes and distribution piping; level sand beds and add 9-12” of sand per bed (approximately 30 tons per bed). Install new pressure piping with orifices and diffusers. 4. **Nitrification Tank**: Dewater and clean existing nitrification tanks; install recirculation pumps and control panels. 5. **Chlorine Contact Tank**: Dewater and clean existing contact tanks; install new chlorine and dechlorination tablet feeders. 6. **Recirculation Tank**: Install a 2,500-gallon precast concrete recirculation tank with pump and control panel. 7. **Electrical Work**: Provide electrical service connections including conduits for both schools (208/120V 3 phase or 120/240V 1 phase). Install control panels (SJE Rhombus IFS Series) for pump monitoring.

Period of Performance

The work is scheduled to commence on June 1st and must be completed by August 1st.

Place of Performance

The contract work will take place at Stewartsville Elementary School located at 1138 Wildcat Rd., Goodview, VA 24095, and Otter River Elementary School located at 1044 Otter River Dr., Goode, VA 24556.

Bidder Requirements

Contractors must comply with Virginia laws regarding non-discrimination in employment practices. They must also provide a drug-free workplace as defined by Virginia law. Contractors are required to have appropriate licenses to conduct business in Virginia. No performance or payment bonds are required for this project.
