Background The Commonwealth of Kentucky is issuing a Request for Bid (RFB-261-26) for the renovation of Shauntee Hall at Kentucky State University, a two-story classroom building originally built in 1971. The goal of this renovation is to comprehensively overhaul the building to enhance its mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, improve overall functionality and aesthetics, and ensure full accessibility. Work Details The renovation will occur in two phases. Phase 1 includes the renovation of an existing lab space (1,756 sq ft) within an unoccupied building. This phase involves site work such as constructing a new sidewalk and concrete pad, relocating an existing exterior HVAC unit, and installing a new louvered screen wall. Interior renovations will include the installation of a new exterior overhead coiling door and man door with associated steel framing, unloading and placement of owner-provided equipment, new electrical work to provide power from the mechanical room to the new CNC lab, installation of a new Unistrut system for equipment power and air supply, and installation of new ADA temporary luxury restrooms with a walkway connector structure. Phase 2 encompasses both interior and exterior work including cleaning and tuckpointing the exterior brick veneer, replacing windows on the first floor offices and clerestory windows on the second floor, minimal roof edge trim repairs to create watertight enclosures, installation of a louvered screening fence around five condensing units near the front entry, raising concrete sidewalks for ADA accessibility under the covered entry, creating one-hour rated corridors on the first floor to meet code requirements, renovating restrooms with new finishes and fixtures, reconfiguring classrooms for better functionality, and adding acoustical treatments throughout both floors. Period of Performance The solicitation was issued on May 1, 2026, with bids closing on May 1, 2026. The project timeline will follow after bid acceptance. Place of Performance The work will be performed at Kentucky State University located at 103 South University Drive, Frankfort, Kentucky. Bidder Requirements Bidders must submit their proposals electronically through the Commonwealth’s eProcurement system. All bidders are required to be registered in the Vendor Self Service (VSS) System prior to bid submission. Bids submitted via email or hard copies will not be accepted.
