Background

The New Mexico Higher Education Department is seeking to enhance and expand clinical clerkship training for medical students in New Mexico-based hospitals, clinics, and federally qualified healthcare centers. The goal of this contract is to develop a comprehensive outreach program that increases interest in the healthcare field within the state, particularly among underserved populations, including Hispanic and Native American communities.

Work Details

The contractor, Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, will provide the following services: 1) Enhance and expand clinical clerkship training for medical students under the supervision of practicing Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine across various specialties including family medicine, emergency medicine, and surgical specialties. Students will engage in taking patient histories, performing physicals, and providing preventative healthcare education. 2) Support the enhancement and expansion of graduate medical education (GME) and community health outreach programs. 3) Implement community-based outreach learning and provision of preventative healthcare services by students in collaboration with existing community safety net health programs. 4) Provide required reporting to the New Mexico Higher Education Department, including a comprehensive summary of activities with an annual report due by June 30 each year.
