This initiative aims to ensure the safety and integrity of approximately 140 miles of transit mainline track across five lines: Green, Orange, Red, Blue, and Mattapan/PCC Lines. The contract is part of MBTA's commitment to maintaining high operational standards and safety for public transportation.
The contractor will perform ultrasonic inspections on the MBTA's rail tracks, which includes: 1. Inspecting approximately 140 miles of track on a semi-annual basis starting August 2026. 2. Employing testing equipment that meets or exceeds AREMA Category I performance guidelines. 5. Providing defect records within 2 hours of each shift's conclusion and producing an end-of-test report within 2 weeks after testing cycles. 6. The contractor must work during non-revenue hours with up to three hours of on-track time per shift.
The contract will be performed over a period of three years starting from August 2026 with two optional one-year extensions at the discretion of the MBTA.
The work will be conducted on various locations along the MBTA transit mainline tracks in Massachusetts.
