A31_2026 Smart Scale - Road Widening And Int. Realignment

Background

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is issuing a contract for the A31_2026 Smart Scale project, which involves road widening and intersection realignment on Route 11 in Rockingham County. The project aims to enhance transportation infrastructure and improve traffic flow in the area. The work will span from 0.024 miles north of Route 704 to 0.040 miles north of Heritage Drive.

Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for various construction activities including:

Permanent Stormwater Management Facility

- As-built documentation and SWM documents - Baseline progress schedule and updates - Monitoring vibration during construction - Clearing and grubbing of the site - Installation of bedding materials, concrete box culverts, reinforced steel, storm sewer pipes, endwalls, drop inlets, manholes, guardrails, and various types of pavement markings. Specific quantities include: - 1,086 tons of bedding material aggregate No. 25 or 26 - 943 lbs of reinforced steel - Various lengths of storm sewer pipes ranging from 15” to 54” - Multiple drop inlets and manholes with specified dimensions. Additionally, the contractor must adhere to safety regulations including flagging traffic and maintaining work zone safety.

Period of Performance

The contract is expected to commence upon award and is scheduled for completion by August 2, 2028.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed in Rockingham County, Virginia along Route 11.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must meet prequalification requirements set by VDOT. They are required to submit bids electronically through Bidx and provide necessary bid bonds as specified in the proposal documents. Additionally, all vendors must complete a subcontractor/supplier solicitation form as part of their bid submission.
