Serenola Substation Fence Installation

Background

Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) is seeking to procure the installation of a high-security perimeter fence at the Serenola Substation. This project aims to enhance physical security and protect critical infrastructure, ensuring the operational continuity of Alachua County's power grid. The existing electrical equipment is already secured, but this new installation will provide an additional layer of defense against intruders and trespassers.

Work Details

The scope of work includes: - Installation of approximately 1150 feet of 7-foot high galvanized chain link fencing (9-gauge or larger) along the property boundary. - Two 20-foot-wide custom swing gates with heavy-duty industrial hardware for padlock integration, positioned with an 85-foot setback from the road for safe vehicle queuing. - Grounding and bonding of the fence to the substation ground grid according to IEEE 80-2013 standards, including a detailed plan for bonding at corners, gate posts, and every 160 feet maximum. - Installation of seven 'No Trespassing' signs at mandated intervals along the perimeter, provided by GRU and attached with tamper-resistant fasteners. - Use of bottom tension wire or 'deadman' anchors to prevent crawling under the fence fabric. - Compliance with safety standards throughout construction, including documentation for utility underground marking (811), site survey confirmation, and waste removal post-installation.

The project is expected to commence following contract award and completion is anticipated within a specified timeline outlined in the execution plan provided by the contractor.
