School of Optometry Design Professional Services

Background

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia is soliciting statements of qualifications for design professional services for Project No. J-460, the School of Optometry at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. The project aims to address the increasing demand for optometrists in the southeastern region by establishing a new College of Optometry that will provide modern healthcare education and services. This initiative is critical for improving community health outcomes and workforce readiness in vision care.

Work Details

The project involves a comprehensive renovation of an existing 34,000 square-foot facility and the construction of a new 10,000 square-foot expansion dedicated to clinical practice. Renovated spaces will include lecture halls, teaching laboratories, clinical laboratories, clinical rooms, offices, and collaboration areas. The design professional will be responsible for:

Interior Design

- Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Communication Systems Design

Structural Design

- Code Review and Compliance. Additionally, sustainable design principles must be integrated into the project as per the Energy Efficiency & Sustainable Construction Act of 2008.

Period of Performance

Design services are anticipated to commence by Fall 2026 with construction documents expected to be completed by Fall 2027. The start of construction is contingent on funding availability.

Bidder Requirements

The applying firm must perform a minimum of 50% of architectural design services in-house. Firms must submit a Certification Form (Exhibit A), Certificate of Insurance and Minority Status Form (Exhibit B), Project Team Composition Form (Exhibit C), Contractor Affidavit (Exhibit E), and Proposer’s Disclosure Statement (Exhibit F). Firms are encouraged to include minority-owned business enterprises (MBE), woman-owned business enterprises (WBE), and small business enterprises (SBE) in their proposals.
