Fresh Produce for Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center

Background

The Commonwealth of Virginia, through the Department of Veterans Services, is issuing this solicitation for the Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center located in Richmond, Virginia. The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to establish a contract with a qualified vendor to provide fresh fruit and produce to support the dietary needs of veterans residing at the care center. The goal is to ensure that all produce supplied meets high standards of quality and freshness, complying with federal regulations.

Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for furnishing and delivering fresh produce to the Sitter and Barfoot Veterans Care Center. All produce must be in first-class, premium condition and comply with federal standards set by agencies such as the Department of Agriculture. Specific requirements include: - Delivery of fresh produce 2-3 times per week, with a minimum of twice weekly. - Produce must be free from defects such as over-ripeness or bruises. - All items must be processed in facilities with an approved HACCP program. - Supplier assistance in sourcing local produce is preferred. - A list of common items includes apples, oranges, bananas, various types of lettuce, herbs, tomatoes, potatoes, and more. Actual orders may vary based on needs.

Period of Performance

The contract will commence upon award and will last for one year with four optional successive one-year terms.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must be registered in eVA and comply with all applicable laws. The solicitation is set-aside for DSBSD-certified small businesses. Bidders are required to submit a Small Business Subcontracting Plan if they plan to use subcontractors. Additionally, bidders must provide proof of insurance coverage including workers' compensation and general liability.
