Background The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska has a requirement for a large river monitoring review. Understanding the condition and character of rivers is crucial for their management due to their economic and ecological significance. While much effort has been focused on smaller wadeable systems, monitoring protocols for larger non-wadeable systems remain underdeveloped. The BLM aims to enhance its monitoring capabilities in light of environmental changes and anthropogenic impacts on river systems. Work Details The contractor shall provide all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to conduct a technical review of peer-reviewed published work, agency white papers, and other gray literature related to status and trend monitoring of non-wadeable streams. The review will focus on the following areas: 1. Geomorphology (including bed material and bank stability) 2. Streamflow and depth variability 3. Water quality 4. Macroinvertebrates 5. Riparian vegetation. The contractor is expected to conduct a comprehensive literature review, identify key metrics relevant to habitat monitoring, synthesize successful methods and technologies used in assessments, and propose a scalable national protocol for monitoring non-wadeable streams.
