Background The Pumped Pretreated Waste System Vault Upgrade Project is initiated by the USDA to address the deterioration of carbon steel piping components within PPW Vaults 101B, 103, and 105 at the USDA Campus in Ames, Iowa. The existing system carries waste from various buildings to the campus wastewater treatment plant, and corrosion due to groundwater has compromised the integrity of the piping and valves. The goal of this contract is to replace these components with stainless steel alternatives to ensure reliable operation and compliance with safety standards. Work Details The contractor is required to replace all carbon steel piping components within PPW Vaults 101B, 103, and 105 with stainless steel components. This includes: - Replacing all existing valves with new stainless steel, full-port ball valves. - Insulating all piping in the vaults. - The work must be scheduled carefully to limit disruption to wastewater processes and daily operations, with each line being down for a maximum of 8 hours on separate days. - The contractor must provide all labor, materials (including piping, fittings, equipment), transportation, storage, and disposal of existing components as necessary for completion of the work. - Work must be coordinated with USDA staff to ensure compliance with operational schedules and safety protocols. Place of Performance The construction projects will take place at the USDA Campus located at 1920 Dayton Avenue in Ames, IA.
