Background The National Park Service (NPS) is issuing this solicitation for the installation of totem poles at Sitka National Historical Park. The goal of the contract is to safely install two totem poles, the Waasgo Legend and the Yaadaass Crest First Twin, which are significant cultural artifacts. This project aims to enhance the park's historical landscape while ensuring the stability and preservation of these structures. Work Details The contractor will be responsible for the following tasks: 1) Safely remove and dispose of the existing Yaadaass Crest First Twin totem pole; 2) Install a new Yaadaass Crest First Twin totem pole in the same location as the old one; 3) Install a new Waasgo Legend totem pole in a newly established location; 4) Provide temporary ground protection in areas of landscaping that may be impacted by work operations; 5) Conduct all excavation, backfill, compaction, and landscaping/trail repairs. The installation methods must ensure vertical stability over time, taking into account local soil conditions and environmental forces such as wind and earthquakes. A written assessment will be required prior to installation to evaluate embedment length and recommend modifications if necessary. Period of Performance The contract period of performance is from May 10, 2026, to November 5, 2026. Place of Performance The work will be performed at Sitka National Historical Park’s Visitor Center located at 106 Metlakatla St, Sitka, AK 99835.
