Background The Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) is proposing the construction of a small hydroelectric project on Fivemile Creek in Chitina, AK. The goal of this contract is to secure qualified contractors for vegetation clearing necessary to support the project. Work Details The contractor will perform vegetation clearing along the access road, penstock route, powerhouse area, diversion and intake structure, as well as staging or spoils areas. The total area to be cleared is estimated at 10.9 acres. All trees and large brush must be cleared to within 6 inches of the ground, with cut materials left on-site unless they pose a safety hazard or block access. Work must be completed outside of the migratory bird window (May 1 through July 15). The contractor is responsible for obtaining legal access to the property owned by Chitina Native Corporation before commencing work. Clearing operations should prioritize cutting flush to ground level or snow surface if snow cover is present. Period of Performance The contracted clearing work is to be completed in 2026. Place of Performance Chitina, Alaska, accessible from the Edgerton Highway. Bidder Requirements Contractors must provide proof of Workers' Compensation, General Liability, and Automobile Insurance prior to contract award. Any project exceeding $100,000 must be bonded.
