A52_2026 Sgr -Bridge Replacement

Background

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is issuing a contract for the replacement of the bridge on Route 643, known as Virginia Structure No. 6275, located in Wythe County within the Bristol District. The project aims to restore and improve transportation infrastructure following severe damage caused by a storm in 2015, which washed out the existing bridge superstructure. The goal of this contract is to ensure safe and efficient passage over the creek by constructing a new bridge that meets current standards.

Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for various tasks including: - Clearing and grubbing of the site. - Regular excavation and erosion control measures. - Installation of temporary silt fences and dewatering basins. - Construction of aggregate base materials and asphalt concrete placement. - Structural excavation and backfill for abutments. - Installation of precast concrete slabs measuring 3.375 feet wide, 21 inches deep, and 31 feet long. - Dismantling and removal of the existing bridge structure, including pier and abutment footings, guardrails, and other components as specified in the plans. - Implementation of temporary traffic control measures during construction to ensure safety for both workers and the public.

Period of Performance

The contract work is scheduled to commence upon award with an expected completion date of September 1, 2027.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed at Route 643 (Silings Road) in Wythe County, Virginia.
