Smart Scale - Safety Improvements

Background

The A54_2026 Smart Scale - Safety Improvements project is issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Transportation (VDOT). The project aims to enhance safety along Route 76, specifically from 0.787 miles south of Powhite Creek to 0.311 miles north of Powhite Creek. This initiative is part of the Smart Scale program, which focuses on improving transportation infrastructure and safety across Virginia.

Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for various construction tasks including but not limited to: clearing and grubbing, excavation, installation of concrete box culverts, reinforcement steel placement, storm sewer pipe installation, and construction of drainage structures. Specific items include: - Clearing and Grubbing (Lump Sum) - Bedding Material Aggregate No. 57 (39 tons) - Concrete Class A4 Box Culvert (33.3 cubic yards) - Reinforcement Steel (3,551.8 lbs) - Storm Sewer Pipe (159 linear feet of 15" pipe; 14 linear feet of 42" pipe; 31 linear feet of 48" pipe) - Drop Inlet DI-2B (4 units) - Manhole MH-1 or MH-2 (31.2 linear feet) - Regular Excavation (13,323 cubic yards) Additional work includes asphalt concrete placement, guardrail installation, traffic control measures, and environmental protection measures such as siltation control.

Period of Performance

The contract performance period is set from the date of award until July 7, 2028.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed in Chesterfield County within the Richmond District along Route 76.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must meet prequalification requirements set by VDOT for bidding on this project. Additionally, contractors are required to maintain a Drug-Free Workplace and comply with Equal Employment Opportunity regulations as mandated by state law.
