Background

The City of Valdosta is seeking qualified and experienced landscaping contractors to provide comprehensive grounds maintenance services for Unity Park, located at 301 E. Central Ave, Valdosta, GA 31601. The goal of the contract is to maintain a healthy, attractive, durable, and consistently green landscape environment that reflects community pride and enhances visitor experience while promoting long-term turf health and sustainability.

Work Details

The selected contractor will be responsible for maintaining Unity Park through various services including: - Regular mowing of all turf areas; - Weed whacking/string trimming around trees, fencing, sidewalks, structures, and landscape beds; - Edging along sidewalks and curbs; - Blowing and removal of grass clippings and debris; - Implementing a fertilization program; - Pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control; - Overseeding as necessary; - Hedge and shrub trimming; - General pruning of ornamental plantings; - Removal of weeds from landscaped beds; - Mulch touch-up recommendations; - Litter removal during each visit; - Maintaining neat appearance of landscaped areas; - Ensuring cleanliness of public areas; - Reporting irrigation issues or hazards to the City promptly; - Coordinating with City staff to minimize disruption to park activities. The contractor must also provide a proposed maintenance schedule detailing service frequencies for mowing, fertilization, weed prevention, overseeding, hedge trimming, and seasonal maintenance.

Period of Performance

The City anticipates entering into an initial one-year agreement with the option to renew annually based on satisfactory performance and budget approval.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must demonstrate a minimum of three years of commercial landscaping experience, preferably in maintaining parks or municipal properties. They must possess proper business licensing and insurance, provide references from comparable projects, and demonstrate knowledge of turf management practices suitable for South Georgia climate conditions. Additionally, bidders must submit proof of general liability insurance, workers' compensation insurance, and automobile liability insurance prior to contract execution.
