Background

The County of Dane, through its Highway & Transportation Department, is seeking bids for Road Killed Deer Pickup Services. The purpose of this solicitation is to establish a contract for the pickup and disposal of deer carcasses reported by citizens that fall within the highway right of way. The County aims to ensure public safety and compliance with regulations regarding the disposal of deer carcasses, particularly in light of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) concerns.

Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for the following services: 1. Pickup and disposal of dead deer carcasses within the highway right of way as reported by citizens to the county law enforcement non-emergency number. 2. All carcasses must be transported to an approved landfill as per CWD regulations; they cannot be left to decompose on-site. 3. The contractor must have a minimum of two years' experience in similar services and access to necessary equipment for removal. 4. Disposal must occur no later than two business days after receiving a report from the Dane County Highway Department, excluding weekends and holidays. 5. Payment will only be made for carcasses that are actually picked up and disposed of at the landfill, with an original landfill receipt required for invoicing.

Period of Performance

The contract is expected to commence on January 1, 2027, and run through December 31, 2027, with options for renewal through December 31, 2031.

Place of Performance

Services will be performed within Dane County, Wisconsin.
