Background The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requires the repair and rehabilitation of Tainter Valves at The Dalles Lock and Dam (TDA) and John Day Lock and Dam (JDA). The goal is to address structural issues identified in engineering drawings, including weld cracking, skin plate cracking, cavitation damage, corrosion, and paint system failure. Work Details The scope of work includes comprehensive rehabilitation of at least one Tainter Valve (TV1) at TDA and two Tainter Valves (TV3 & TV4) at JDA. Tasks involve: 1. Removal and replacement of valve seals, seal plates, and hardware; 2. Installation of armor plates over cavitation damage; 3. Transporting damaged valves to a fabrication shop for repairs; 4. Providing as-built dimensional control surveys upon removal, after repair, and before reinstallation; 5. Repairing cracks, corrosion, and cavitation damage on structural members as per engineering drawings; 6. Ensuring all structural welds conform to AWS D1.1 standards; 7. Fabrication must be done by AISC certified plants with documented experience; 8. Replacement of seals for the Tainter Valves; 9. Installation of new armor plate sections to mitigate cavitation; 10. Coordination with USACE personnel for alignment during bushing replacement.
