Farm Lease Long Acre Farm

Background

The City of Suffolk is issuing this Invitation for Bid (IFB) to lease approximately 93 acres of city property located on Kings Highway in the Chuckatuck Borough of Suffolk, Virginia. The purpose of this lease is to facilitate farming activities on the designated land. The City aims to provide opportunities for agricultural use while ensuring compliance with local regulations and standards.

Work Details

The scope of work includes leasing Tract #5553, which consists of 93 acres of tillable soil. The lessee will be responsible for maintaining the property, including establishing and maintaining access paths, ensuring the land is suitable for farming, and adhering to all posted regulations regarding property use. The lessee must manage any damages incurred during the lease period and maintain fences and roads as necessary. The initial lease term is one year, with an option for an additional year at the discretion of the City. Rent payments are due immediately upon award for the initial term and annually thereafter.

Period of Performance

The lease will commence upon full execution of the agreement and will run through June 30, 2027, with a possible extension for one additional year through June 30, 2028.

The leased property is located at 239 Kings Highway, Chuckatuck Borough, Suffolk, VA 23439.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must demonstrate that they are established in similar work scope and possess adequate manpower and equipment. They must provide proof of insurance coverage including general liability ($2 million aggregate), automobile liability ($1 million), workers' compensation as required by Virginia law, and excess liability ($2 million). Bidders must also comply with local business licensing requirements in Suffolk.
