Background

The Office of Grants and Research (OGR) in Massachusetts serves as the State Administering Agency for traffic safety grants funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The goal of the FFY 2027 Community Traffic Safety Grant Program is to reduce roadway crashes, injuries, fatalities, and associated economic losses in Massachusetts. Approximately $500,000 in grant funds is available for nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations to implement community-based traffic safety programs that are data-informed and designed to address specific traffic safety problems.

Work Details

The grant program invites proposals from Massachusetts nonprofit organizations to implement community-based traffic safety projects. Projects must identify a specific traffic safety problem using local data and align with priority areas such as occupant protection, speeding and aggressive driving, impaired driving, pedestrian and bicyclist safety, distracted driving, and motorcycle safety. Each proposal should define clear, measurable goals and objectives for success evaluation. The maximum award amount is $75,000 per project. Applicants must provide a 20% match share through state appropriations or in-kind contributions. Funding is contingent upon federal appropriations from NHTSA.

Period of Performance

The performance period for the grant is from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027.

Place of Performance

The contract will be performed within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
