Boynton Air Handler Redesign

Background

The University of Minnesota, through the Board of Regents, is seeking proposals for construction services aimed at replacing air handling units at the Boynton Health Clinic located on the east bank of the Twin Cities campus. The clinic is a vital part of the university's medical services and has undergone multiple renovations since its establishment. The project aims to ensure the facility's mechanical systems are updated and viable for continued use over the next 20 to 25 years.

Work Details

The project involves replacing three existing air handling units (AHUs) SUP001, SUP002, and SUP003 with a single new air handler located in the mechanical penthouse. The work will be executed in two phases: - Phase 1 includes removing an abandoned cooling tower and installing a new AHU-001, along with associated piping from the basement to the penthouse. - Phase 2 involves removing the three existing AHUs in the basement and installing new piping for heating coils. All construction activities must be coordinated with Boynton Clinic operations to minimize disruption.

Period of Performance

The project is expected to be substantially completed by December 15, 2026.
