The City of Muscatine is currently accepting proposals from qualified firms or individuals for the removal of the structure at 201 E 2nd St including the abandonment of utilities and removal of the building foundation per the specifications of our structural engineer. The objective of this project is to remove the remnants of a commercial building with upper story apartments. The lot area consists of 2,800 sf commercial building with upper story housing constructed on a brick and limestone basement foundation in 1900, located at 201 E 2nd St.. The City is seeking proposals from qualified contractors to perform stabilization, securing, and/or demolition services for a structure located at 201 E. 2nd St., Muscatine, Iowa (the Property ). This building at 201 E. 2nd St. shares a common wall with the building at 203 E. 2nd St. The roof and floor joist of the building of 201 bears on this common wall; therefore, extreme caution shall be exercised during the demolition process. It is critical that all structural elements supported by the common wall be fully supported prior to proceeding with demolition. The demolition should occur level by level, starting with the roof and progressing downward. The basement foundation walls on the northwest side (adjacent to the alley) and the westernmost third of the south side (corner of the alley and Sycamore St) of 201 must remain in place, as they may be integrated into the tunnel structure. **The City has initiated legal proceedings seeking authorization to abate the nuisance conditions, including but not limited to demolition and removal of the structure. At the time of issuance of this Request for Proposals ( RFP ), a final court order authorizing abatement has not yet been entered. Accordingly, this RFP is being issued in anticipation of such authorization to ensure the City can act promptly upon receipt of judicial approval.
