Background The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation is seeking a contractor to provide refuse collection and disposal services at Hilo International Airport. The goal of this contract is to ensure proper waste management and sanitation at the airport, which is critical for maintaining public health and safety. Work Details The Contractor shall provide all labor, refuse/waste containers, transportation, and equipment necessary to collect and properly dispose of refuse/waste from designated areas at Hilo International Airport. This includes: - Five (5) refuse containers in three (3) designated areas: - Terminal 1 (East End): 3 containers (7 days/week) - Terminal 2 (West End): 3 containers (7 days/week) - Hilo Airport Maintenance: 2 containers (Monday to Friday, excluding weekends and state holidays) - Containers must be of metal construction with wheels, easily opened and closed by one individual, uniform in configuration and appearance, easily recognizable as refuse containers, and equipped with locking lids. - Containers must be maintained in good condition, sanitized weekly, painted uniformly, and free from advertising. - Refuse collection must occur between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to avoid traffic interference. Containers must be emptied completely during collections without leakage or spillage. - The Contractor is responsible for cleaning up container areas and ensuring they are left in a clean condition. Period of Performance The contract will be performed over a twelve (12) month period commencing on the date indicated in the Purchase Order issued by the State. Place of Performance Hilo International Airport, Hilo, Hawaii. Bidder Requirements The successful Contractor must comply with all Federal and State security requirements if containers are located in secured areas. This includes obtaining employee badges and undergoing fingerprinting/security threat assessments. Additionally, the Contractor must adhere to environmental laws regarding hazardous substances.
