Summary (Newest Update)

Background The USAF Academy (USAFA) is conducting a Sources Sought Notice for market research purposes to identify capable sources, particularly small business concerns, that can provide commercially available, high-performance quantum scalar magnetometers. The goal is to find products that meet specific salient characteristics for ultra-precise magnetic field measurement sensors. Work Details The requirement includes high-performance quantum scalar magnetometers with the following salient characteristics: - Operating Principle: Optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) utilizing an atomic vapor cell (e.g., Rubidium or Potassium). - Measurement Mode: Scalar measurement mode responding to the absolute magnitude of the magnetic field. - Sensitivity: Better than 1 pT/√Hz (sub-picotesla range). - Bandwidth: Frequency response from DC up to at least 500 Hz. - Optical Source: Integrated, low-power laser excitation source (e.g., VCSEL technology). - Dimensions: Sensor head must not exceed approximately 20 mm × 20 mm × 40 mm. - Weight: Must weigh no more than 19 grams for low-SWaP integration on UAV/UAS platforms. - Modularity: Features a separated or modular Electronic Control Unit (ECU) capable of real-time digital signal processing. - Synchronization: Capable of synchronized operation within a multi-sensor array via GPS/GNSS. - Orientation: Must not require precise angular alignment with the Earth’s magnetic field. - Commercial Availability: Must be a Commercially Available Off-The-Shelf (COTS) item. Period of Performance The geographic location(s) the product will be delivered to or performed at Bidder Requirements Bidders must provide a Capability Statement including company profile, socio-economic status, product capabilities demonstrating compliance with salient characteristics, manufacturing status as either OEM or authorized reseller/distributor, and confirmation of compliance with the Buy American Act (BAA).
