Background The USDA/Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Area Incident Support Cache (RMK) intends to procure an estimated number of Adjustable Sprinkler Head Assembly (NFES 0998) for use during prescribed burns and wildfire incidents. The National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) establishes standards for fire supplies and equipment in the National Fire Equipment System (NFES) Catalog Part 1: Fire Supplies and Equipment. National Interagency Support Caches (NISC) provide necessary equipment to field crews, wildland firefighters, support staff, and other essential personnel for deployment to wildfire and prescribed fire incidents following NWCG standards. The Adjustable Sprinkler Head Assembly NFES 0998 are new items not yet included in the NFES catalog and will be included in Water Handling Kit 1048, potentially replacing the current non-adjustable Sprinkler Head Assembly NFES 0999. Work Details The Adjustable Sprinkler Head Assembly shall contain 3 pieces: 1. Full or part-circle (adjustable) solid brass or bronze impact sprinkler head with stainless steel springs, spindle, and fulcrum pin; a 1/2” – 14 Male National Pipe Thread (MNPT) inlet; a removable straight bore nozzle with an orifice of 5/32” or 4mm - 24 UNF threaded; no polymer or non-metal parts except for critical bearings, bushings, washers, and spacers. 2. Forty-five (45) degree angle elbow body made from cast aluminum alloy, with a maximum overall length of 4.0 inches, inlet and outlet both being ½” NPT threaded male and female respectively. 3. Brass swivel fitting reducing from 3/4" Female Hose Thread (FHT) to 1/2" Female Pipe Thread Fitting (FNPT) with a rubber gasket. Special packaging is required: packaged in cartons of 20 units with specific dimensions and strength ratings.
