Background The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Grand Junction Field Office (GJFO) is seeking to perform mastication treatments as part of its natural resource management efforts. This project aims to manage vegetation in Western Colorado, specifically targeting encroaching Pinyon, Juniper, and mixed mountain shrub species to enhance forest health and reduce wildfire risks. Work Details The contractor will be responsible for the mastication of vegetation across two designated units totaling 611 acres. Unit 1 (Farmers) encompasses approximately 468 acres, while Unit 2 (Corcoran Peak) covers around 143 acres. The work includes grinding and mulching targeted vegetation using contractor-furnished equipment such as Hydro-Ax or Fecon Bull Hog. Specific tasks include: - Removal of targeted Pinyon, Juniper, and mixed mountain shrub. - Mastication of all juniper under 24 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) and a minimum of 50% of mixed mountain shrub in Unit 1. - In Unit 2, mastication will focus on mixed mountain shrub and all juniper under 8 inches DBH. - The mulch produced must be evenly distributed across the soil surface without exceeding piles greater than 8 inches deep. - Operations must cease during wet conditions that could cause soil rutting greater than 3 inches. Period of Performance The period of performance for this contract is from July 15, 2026, to November 15, 2026. Work is expected to begin within ten days following the contractor's receipt of the Notice to Proceed. Place of Performance The work will be performed in Mesa County, Colorado, specifically in two units near Grand Junction: Unit 1 (Farmers) located approximately 22 miles south and Unit 2 (Corcoran Peak) located about 18 miles north.
