Vermont Studio Center Floodplain Restoration Project - Final Design Engineering

Background

The Vermont Studio Center (VSC) is undertaking a floodplain restoration project following significant flood damage to a campus building during the July 2023 flood. The goal of the project is to restore natural floodplain conditions and enhance the stream buffer along the Gihon River, thereby improving flood resiliency and providing educational opportunities about ecological benefits.

Work Details

The project involves the following key tasks: 1. Final Design (100%) Plans: The consultant will develop complete design plans based on existing 30% designs, including a final cost estimate for the floodplain restoration project located on a 0.5-acre parcel near the Pearl Street bridge in Johnson, Vermont. This includes multiple meetings with project partners for design reviews at various stages (60% and 90%). 2. Final Cost Estimate: A comprehensive cost estimate for construction will be provided, including contingencies. 3. Permitting Documentation: Assistance in filing required permits for construction, adjusting design plans as necessary based on agency feedback. 4. Final Design Report: A report synthesizing all previous deliverables, including alternatives analysis, floodplain elevation changes, and water quality benefits.

Period of Performance

The contract is expected to be executed by July 1, 2026, with project completion targeted for March 1, 2027.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed at the Vermont Studio Center located in Johnson, Vermont.
