Electric Vehicle Charging Station Infrastructure and Operations

A recent meeting document Barnstable - Town Council Meeting - 2026-05-14 indicates a future potential acquisition The Town of Barnstable is establishing a dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station Revolving Fund to support the ongoing operation, maintenance, and expansion of Town-owned EV charging infrastructure. Recent efforts include the installation of 70 new charging ports across Hyannis, funded by $279,606 in MassEVIP grant funds and $1,369,019 in Eversource infrastructure and installation support, with the Town paying less than $37,000 after reimbursements. The first installation of eight charging ports at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center is nearly complete. The new revolving fund will allow revenues from user fees to be retained for related expenses, with projected annual operating costs for all chargers at approximately $288,000. This initiative will likely require ongoing contracts for hardware/software maintenance, payment processing, customer service, and future expansion of charging infrastructure, as well as opportunities for vendors in EV charging technology, maintenance, and related services.
