Background

The Bridgeton Board of Education is seeking proposals for a comprehensive English language arts program to serve as the primary resource for its English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum. The goal is to support multilingual learners in grades K-12, particularly focusing on the four domains of language acquisition: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The program aims to provide various levels of support tailored to Bilingual ESL students at different stages of language acquisition.

Work Details

The selected program must: 1. Serve as the main resource for the ESL curriculum, providing a comprehensive language arts/literacy approach for Bilingual and ESL students in grades K-12. 2. Address the four domains of language: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. 3. Include components that enhance phonemic awareness, comprehension, and other key skills essential to a Language Arts/Literacy Program. 4. Accelerate English language acquisition and literacy learning. 5. Be effective in improving phonemic awareness while also targeting comprehension and interpretation skills. 6. Align with current scientific research and adhere to Common Core State Standards and New Jersey Learning Standards. 7. Provide differentiated instruction for students at varying levels of English language acquisition. 8. Include a digital component along with hard copies of teaching materials, workbooks, and manipulatives to enhance differentiated instruction.

Period of Performance

The contract will be for one school year with an option for two one-year extensions.

Bidder Requirements

Respondents must demonstrate knowledge and experience in using systematic phonological methods to teach reading in Spanish. They should have prior experience working with New Jersey school districts providing similar services. Additionally, respondents must submit evidence of compliance with affirmative action requirements prior to contract execution.
