Central Wisconsin Housing Summit and Affordable Housing Initiatives

A recent meeting document Portage County - Agriculture and Extension Packet - 2026-05-14 indicates a future potential acquisition Portage County, through its Community Development Educator, hosted the Central Wisconsin Housing Summit, a regional convening designed to bring together developers, municipal leaders, and housing practitioners. The event highlighted best practices, resources, and collaborative strategies to advance local housing solutions that address workforce needs and support long‑term community vitality. This event was designed to elevate the builder and developer perspective and address real challenges in today’s housing landscape, with a goal of accelerating cross‑sector collaboration that leads to more housing development in Central Wisconsin. Additionally, the county is facilitating the Portage County Affordable Housing Coalition, a newly forming coalition for housing service providers in Portage County. Through increasing communication between and understanding of the various organizations across the county, as well as collaborating on various efforts through topic-based workgroups, the overall goal is to improve housing access and affordability in the Portage County area. These initiatives may lead to future RFPs for consulting, planning, construction, and housing development services as the coalition and summit outcomes are implemented.
