Background

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), a corporate and political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is issuing this Request for Proposals (RFP) #77-26 for the removal and replacement of existing cooling towers at the South Station Bus Terminal. The goal of this contract is to ensure the efficient operation of the terminal's cooling systems, which are critical for maintaining comfortable conditions within the facility.

Work Details

The scope of work includes: 1. Removal and replacement of two (2) Marly NC series cooling towers located on the 5th floor of the South Station Bus Terminal. 2. The new cooling towers must match the specifications and size of the existing units, with no modifications expected to the existing roof platform or dunnage. 3. The contractor will be responsible for disconnecting, disassembling, and removing the existing cooling towers from the site. 4. All necessary piping, pipe insulation, wiring, and heat trace must be provided by the contractor. 5. Compliance with all applicable MBTA Engineering Directives & Guidelines is required. 6. The contractor must obtain all necessary permits from Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), including hoisting and rigging permits if a crane is used.

Period of Performance

The estimated service start date is September 15, 2026, with a completion date no later than April 1, 2027.

Place of Performance

The work will be performed at the South Station Bus Terminal located at 700 Atlantic Ave., Boston, MA.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must provide a bid deposit of 5% of their bid amount along with their response.
