The City of Ames, Iowa is soliciting proposals from qualified firms to provide recycling processing services. The selected firm will receive recyclable materials collected by the City with the goal of diverting clean, marketable recyclables from the waste stream, minimizing landfill disposal, and partnering with the City to support education, outreach, and cost-effective recycling operations. Work Details

The selected firm will be responsible for receiving, processing, sorting, and marketing recyclable materials. The estimated annual tonnage is 2,500 tons. In Year 1, two collection trucks will deliver materials four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday). In Years 2-5, one transfer trailer will be used every 2 to 3 days as needed. Accepted recyclable materials include: - Mixed paper - Cardboard - Glass containers - Plastic containers with twist-off lids - Metal cans The firm must provide a receiving site that accommodates curbside collection vehicles and has a minimum vertical clearance of 14 feet. Additionally, the firm is responsible for full recycling processing and marketing services including labor and equipment necessary for these tasks. Monthly market index reports must be provided to the City along with accurate weight records of delivered materials.

Period of Performance

The initial contract term is for two years starting July 1, 2026, with an option for three additional one-year terms that are mutually agreed upon.

Place of Performance

The services will be performed at the firm's receiving site which must be located in proximity to Ames to facilitate efficient operations.

Bidder Requirements

Firms must submit a notarized Local Business Certificate if they are located within Ames city limits and pay commercial property tax. Proposals must be valid for at least 90 days from the closing date of June 2, 2026. Firms are required to have all necessary permits and licenses for operation.
