Service Canines

Background

The City of Tucson is seeking responsible and experienced vendors to supply Service Canines for the Tucson Police Department and City Court. The goal of this contract is to provide canines that meet all standards outlined in the scope, with needs varying across three categories: Police Service Dogs, Explosive Detection Canines, and Wellness Canines. The Tucson Police Department will handle the training of these canines internally, meaning vendors are not required to provide training or handlers.

Work Details

The contract involves supplying three categories of canines: 1. **Group A - Police Service Dog**: These dogs will assist law enforcement personnel in various capacities including patrol, narcotics detection, and apprehension of suspects. Vendors must ensure a minimum of 10 viable service canines are available for selection at the time of purchase. 2. **Group B - Explosive Detection Canine**: These canines will be tasked with detecting explosive materials in settings such as public events and government facilities. Vendors must provide documentation on health screenings and allow city personnel to test the canines prior to purchase. 3. **Group C - Wellness Canine**: These canines must meet specific health requirements and be capable of being trained to the National Police Canine Association Wellness Canine standard. Vendors must ensure that all canines provided are free from significant environmental issues and social in nature.

Period of Performance

The contract term will commence upon award and remain effective for one year, with options for up to four additional one-year extensions based on performance and funding availability.

Place of Performance

The services will be performed within the City of Tucson, Arizona.

Bidder Requirements

Vendors must have appropriate insurance coverage including Commercial General Liability, Commercial Automobile Liability, Workers' Compensation, and Professional Liability with specified coverage limits. They must also provide proof of insurance before commencing work under this contract.
