Background

The Town of Washington, Vermont is seeking proposals from qualified engineering firms for the design, engineering analysis, and project management of a replacement structure for Poor Farm Bridge #1. This project is being funded through FEMA and aims to provide a long-lasting, weather-adaptive, and cost-effective structure that supports the safe passage of low-volume vehicular traffic, including emergency and maintenance vehicles.

Work Details

The selected firm will be responsible for: 1. Engineering the installation of a precast open bottom arch structure with a minimum clear span of 24 feet and minimum clear height of 8.5 feet as per the 8.1.23 Hydraulic Study. 2. Consulting with regional ANR representatives to ensure compliance with codes and standards. 3. Preparing complete working drawings and specifications including flared wingwalls matched into channel banks and stone-stabilized embankments. 4. Conducting preliminary site analysis which includes reviewing the Hydraulic Study, site visits for measurements, evaluating soils and slopes, and assessing environmental permitting requirements. 5. Overseeing project management which includes drafting an RFP for construction, conducting mandatory pre-bid site visits, reviewing bids in conjunction with the Town, supervising on-site construction activities, inspecting completed structures for compliance with specifications, and preparing final as-built drawings.

The project is preferred to be completed by November 1st, 2026, with proposals due by June 1st, 2026.

The work will be performed at Poor Farm Bridge #1 located on the south side of Poor Farm Road in Washington, Vermont (GPS Coordinates: 44.05154, -72.47343).
