Background

The Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority (RMTA) is issuing a contract for maintenance and repair work on the Richmond Expressway System. The goal of this contract is to ensure the structural integrity and safety of various bridges within the expressway system through necessary repairs and maintenance activities.

Work Details

The contract involves miscellaneous repairs on multiple bridges, with specific tasks and quantities outlined as follows:

Bridge 4

Remove pack rust and repair sole plate weld (1 EA, jacking required).

Bridge 6

Remove pack rust and repair sole plate weld (3 EA, jacking required).

Bridge 9N

Repair cracked sole plate weld (2 EA, jacking not required).

Bridge 9S

Repair cracked sole plate weld (2 EA, jacking not required).

Bridge 10N

Repair cracked sole plate weld (2 EA, jacking not required).

Bridge 10S

Repair cracked sole plate weld (2 EA, jacking not required).

Bridge 13

Remove pack rust and repair sole plate weld (2 EA, jacking required, jacking towers required). Additional tasks include repairing joint sliding plates, resetting bearings, and trimming girder ends across various bridges with specified quantities. A total of 61 items are listed for completion under this contract.

Period of Performance

The work under this contract shall be completed no later than June 30, 2027.

Place of Performance

The geographic location for the performance of this contract is within the Richmond Expressway System in Richmond, Virginia.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must be prequalified by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) for bidding on state projects. They must have prior experience in the jacking and blocking of beams and structural steel repairs as well as in the repair of bridge substructures using Shotcrete. Documentation demonstrating successful completion of at least three relevant projects is required. The Authority encourages participation from minority-owned and women-owned businesses.
