Background

The Passaic Board of Education in Passaic, New Jersey, is seeking proposals for a contract focused on the cleaning and certification of kitchen exhaust hoods. The purpose of this proposal is to ensure that the exhaust hoods are maintained in good and efficient operating condition, which aligns with the Board's commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

Work Details

The successful bidder will be responsible for cleaning and inspecting various exhaust hoods across multiple school locations. The scope of work includes: - Cleaning of both the exterior and interior of kitchen hoods, accessible ducts, fans, and filters. Filters must be inspected and cleaned. - Scraping interior or horizontal ducts to remove grease build-up. - Cleaning and inspecting fan housing and blades; checking fan belt and motor for any malfunctions. - Replacing and labeling any removed access panels with the date of inspection. A sticker or tag must be placed on each hood with the service provider's name, address, telephone number, and date of service. - Hand-drying and polishing all hoods before returning equipment to its original position. - Conducting airflow readings to validate adequate draw; relighting pilot lights if necessary. - Using cleaning methods and chemicals per manufacturer specifications (Captive-Aire & Gaylord). - Capturing waste water and chemicals used for cleaning roof-mounted equipment for proper disposal. - Providing an electronic report post-cleaning that includes before-and-after pictures, audio notes, and video documentation as required by NFPA 96. - Scheduling cleanings after food preparation has been completed in kitchens, coordinating with the Food Services Coordinator.

Period of Performance

The contract will cover two scheduled cleanings per kitchen per school year: one in the fall (October/November) and one in the spring (April/May).
