Background

Sedgwick County, located in south-central Kansas, is one of the most populous counties in the state with a population exceeding 514,000. The county is seeking to engage a firm or firms to provide Architectural and Engineering (A/E) Services for the construction and remodeling of the Regional Forensic Science Center Laboratory. The goal of this contract is to enhance the laboratory's capabilities through design and construction administration services.

Work Details

The selected firm will be responsible for designing and administering the construction of a new forensic laboratory addition and remodeling of the existing facility at 1109 N. Minneapolis, Wichita, KS. The existing building spans approximately 31,825 square feet, with an expected addition of around 24,600 square feet. Key tasks include: - Inspecting and assessing current building conditions including finishes, ADA accessibility, and reconfiguration of electrical, mechanical (HVAC), security, fire suppression, and plumbing systems. - Designing spaces for expanded Pathology, Morgue, Medical Investigation, and Toxicology Laboratory services. - Expanding parking areas and repairing surfaces. - Developing preliminary design documents including construction plans and specifications. - Conducting necessary research such as soil testing for design completion. - Providing weekly site visits during construction to ensure compliance with ADA standards and project specifications. - Preparing change orders as required and conducting final inspections to verify project completion.

Period of Performance

The contract will commence upon approval from the Board of County Commissioners and will continue until all services are completed as agreed by both parties. The proposal responses are due by June 23, 2026.

Bidder Requirements

Firms must have a minimum of 10 years' experience in providing similar A/E services.
