Background The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), Field Acquisition Office (FAO), is conducting market research for Mortuary Services at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Devens, located in Ayer, Massachusetts. This requirement is not new, as services are currently provided by Lehman Reen Funeral Home, Inc. The existing contract was awarded in March 2022 for $572,050.00 and is set to end on March 5, 2027. The goal of this contract is to ensure the provision of necessary mortuary services for the inmate population. Work Details The contractor will provide a range of mortuary services including: transportation of deceased inmates from the Medical Examiner’s Office or local hospitals; embalming and body preparation; clothing and dressing of the deceased; filing of necessary certificates and permits; provision of caskets; cremation services; and burial arrangements. Specific tasks include: 1. Transportation in a closed hearse registered in Massachusetts. 2. Embalming services tailored to the condition of the body, including normal cases and autopsy cases. 3. Provision of certified copies of death certificates. 4. Coordination with cemeteries and crematories for burial or cremation as per family requests. 5. Compliance with all state laws regarding embalming, burial, and shipment. 6. Availability for notification 24/7 for service requests. Period of Performance The anticipated period of performance includes a base year from March 6, 2027, through March 5, 2028, with four additional option years extending through March 5, 2032. Place of Performance Services will be performed at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Devens located at 42 Patton Road, Ayer, MA 01432.
