Summary (Newest Update)

Background The contract is issued by the Bureau of Reclamation, part of the U.S. Department of the Interior, for the Animas-La Plata Project (ALP) in southwestern Colorado. The mission of this project is to implement the Colorado Ute Indian Water Rights Settlement Act and manage water resources effectively. The goal of this contract is to create a comprehensive forest management plan that addresses current forest conditions and develops strategies for sustainable management on ALP lands, particularly around Lake Nighthorse, which faces high wildfire hazards. Work Details The contractor will be responsible for creating a Forest Management Plan that includes: conducting site visits to gather field data and photographs; utilizing publicly available forestry and fire data; employing computer modeling software to analyze forest conditions; and focusing on areas surrounding Lake Nighthorse while considering adjacent lands. The Plan must cover property descriptions, current conditions, topography, geology, climate, historical land use, and desired future conditions. Specific tasks include: 1) Completing site visits with at least 7 days' notice; 2) Collecting data safely and efficiently; 3) Using existing roads for access; 4) Ensuring work is conducted during specified hours on weekdays only; 5) Focusing on forest improvements primarily around Lake Nighthorse rather than mitigation lands. Place of Performance The contract will be performed in La Plata and Montezuma Counties in southwestern Colorado, specifically around Lake Nighthorse and associated ALP lands.
