Summary (Newest Update)

Background The Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center (ZCCHC) operates the only Indian Health Service hospital within the Albuquerque Area, serving as a critical access point for emergency, inpatient, obstetric, urgent care, and primary care services for the surrounding tribal community. The mission of the Indian Health Service is to enhance the health of American Indians and Alaska Natives. Maintaining uninterrupted Emergency Department coverage is essential to fulfilling this mission and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services. Recent unanticipated physician departures have created a critical staffing shortfall that requires immediate action to preserve 24/7 emergency services. Work Details The contractor will provide two Emergency Room Physicians who will be responsible for: - Communicating clinical findings and treatment plans to patients and their families; - Providing support to patients and families during episodes of illness; - Maintaining timely and accurate medical records according to applicable standards; - Determining when specialist services are required and arranging appropriate referrals or hospital admissions; - Conducting inpatient rounds and developing plans of care as required; - Providing on-call coverage as necessary to maintain 24/7 emergency services; - Conducting initial and periodic health examinations and prescribing appropriate treatments; - Coordinating with business office and credentialing staff to ensure professional licensure, certifications, and third-party billing credentials remain current. The contractor must document all patient encounters in compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, and applicable IHS policies. Period of Performance One year, necessary to stabilize emergency services while ZCCHC continues recruitment efforts for permanent federal staff. Place of Performance Zuni Service Unit, Zuni, NM
