Suffolk County is seeking proposals from firms, large and small, that have demonstrated expertise in one, some or all of the following areas of practice: general appellate work, land use/zoning, real estate, condemnation, landlord/tenant and tort/non-tort litigation for at least ten (10) years. Firms are invited to offer proposals on any one or more of the services the County is seeking or on any combination thereof.
Background Suffolk County, located in New York, is seeking proposals for legal counsel services to support its Department of Law. The County has a population of approximately 1.5 million and an annual operating budget of about $3.9 billion. The Department is responsible for various legal affairs, including civil actions, land use/zoning matters, and real estate transactions. The goal of this contract is to engage firms with expertise in general legal counsel, appellate work, land use/zoning, real estate, condemnation, landlord/tenant issues, and tort/non-tort litigation. Work Details The selected firm(s) will provide legal services in the following areas: - General Legal Counsel: Offering written or verbal opinions on legal matters. - Appellate Work: Handling appeals related to the County's legal cases. - Land Use/Zoning: Advising on zoning regulations and land use planning. - Real Estate: Managing transactions involving property acquisition and sales. - Condemnation: Representing the County in eminent domain proceedings. - Landlord/Tenant: Addressing disputes between landlords and tenants involving County properties. - Tort and Non-Tort Litigation: Representing the County in various civil litigations. Period of Performance The anticipated term of the contract is two (2) years with two (2) one-year options to extend at the County’s sole option. Place of Performance The services will be performed within Suffolk County, New York. Bidder Requirements Firms must demonstrate at least five (5) years of experience in one or more of the specified practice areas. Proposals must include compliance forms such as the Disqualification of Non-responsible Bidders form and a Non-Collusive Offer Certification. Additionally, firms must disclose any conflicts of interest and provide financial statements as part of their submission.
