Background The 628th Contracting Squadron at Joint Base Charleston (JBC), SC is seeking capabilities packages from potential sources for planning purposes for the Repair Intersection Runway 03-12 & 15-33 at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. The project aims to enhance runway safety and operational efficiency by repairing critical pavement sections. Work Details The scope of this project includes removal and replacement of 136 individual pavement panels measuring 25 ft wide x 25 ft long x 24 inches deep, located at the intersection of the primary and secondary runways. Replacement panels will be constructed to a depth of 26 inches. Work will occur during a 6–8-hour period between approximately 2300 hrs to 0700, Thursday through Monday. The process involves three primary activities each night: saw cutting, removal and installation of temporary panels, and placement of permanent panels. Permanent panels will be made from fast-setting concrete capable of achieving aircraft traffic strength within a 3–4-hour cure period, allowing daily aircraft traffic each morning. Specialized capabilities and equipment required include sawing and removal equipment for 24-inch pavement and volumetric mixers sufficient to place a minimum of 50 cubic yards of fast-setting concrete. Ancillary work includes milling and overlaying existing asphalt shoulders, installation of new runway centerline and edge lighting within the work limits, installation of runway markings, pavement grinding for smoothness, and pavement grooving.
