Background The Salem Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System (HCS) is seeking to partner with a renal pathology laboratory to provide supplemental renal biopsy diagnostic services. This initiative aims to enhance the urgent and critical treatment of veterans suffering from renal diseases and/or impairment. The contract is issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs, which is dedicated to serving veterans by providing high-quality healthcare. Work Details The contractor will deliver a comprehensive range of renal biopsy pathology services, including: - 24-hour turnaround diagnostic service for renal biopsies. - Processing and interpretation of native and transplant renal biopsies for adults. - Provision of Renal Biopsy Kits with packaging and pre-paid express shipping. - Transportation of surgical anatomic pathology samples from the Salem VA HCS to the contractor’s laboratory, regardless of specimen quantity. - Emergency services available nights, weekends, and holidays. - Personalized service including nephropathologist calls to clinicians within 24 hours to discuss biopsy findings. - Inclusion of images in reports accessible via phone, fax, and online. - Routine staining protocols for Light Microscopy (H&E, PAS, Trichrome & Jones), Immunofluorescence (IgG, IgA, IgM, C1q, C3, albumin, fibrinogen, kappa, lambda, C4d), and Electron Microscopy (EM). - Participation in renal biopsy conferences upon request by the Salem VA HCS Nephrologist. - Notification of specimens cancelled/rejected due to unacceptability. - Delivery of test patient reports either by hard copy or electronic transmission. Period of Performance The contract will commence on March 1, 2026, with options for renewal extending through February 28, 2031.
