Please submit a bid for furnishing SECURING VACANT RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURES at various locations over time period of April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2028, allowing for a 30-day cancellation notice by the City only, with the supplier making no claim for damages or additional compensation by reason of such cancellation. The price for the items(s) will be fixed. Background The City of Akron is seeking contractors to provide services for securing vacant residential structures. This initiative aims to enhance community safety and property management by ensuring that vacant properties are properly secured against unauthorized access. The contract is intended to cover various locations within the city over a specified period. Work Details Contractors will be responsible for furnishing all labor, materials, and incidentals necessary for board-up services to secure vacant and open buildings, including permanent accessory structures such as garages, storage sheds, gazebos, and small pole barns. The Housing Compliance Division will submit requests via email to the contractor to secure the structures. Upon receiving a request, the contractor must secure the structure within 48 hours and notify the Housing Division upon completion. Immediate board-up may be required in urgent situations. Material requirements include: - ½” CDX plywood - 1½” drywall/deck/sheet metal screws - 2 x 4 lumber Specific boarding requirements include securing openings with plywood cut to fit tightly into window openings and using fasteners every 8-10 inches. Doorway openings must be boarded similarly, with framing required for larger openings (greater than 4’ x 8’). Safety protocols mandate that work be conducted during normal business hours, verification of property vacancy before work commencement, adherence to a no confrontation policy with any individuals found on-site, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and immediate reporting of any safety concerns or unauthorized occupants. Bidder Requirements Bidders must complete an Equal Employment Opportunity Report and submit it with their bid. Contractors are required to have Workman’s Compensation Insurance and General Liability Insurance naming the City as Additional Insured with specified coverage limits.
