Summary (Newest Update)

Background The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Alaska Science Center, conducts research on regional geology and mineral resources, focusing on the geochronology of understudied areas in Alaska. This research aims to contribute to geologic maps and elucidate the framework geology of these areas, thereby reconstructing tectonic and metallogenic evolution. The contract seeks qualified sources for in-situ laser-ablation split-stream (LASS) radiogenic isotope and trace element analysis services, specifically utilizing zircon samples for U-Pb geochronology and Hf isotope analysis. Work Details The contractor shall provide access to a Laser-Ablation Split-Stream Multi-Collector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (LASS-MC-ICPMS) laboratory for a total of 6 days of instrument time. Responsibilities include: maintaining the LASS-MC-ICPMS to ensure reproducibility of U/Pb and Hf ratios; allowing 24-hour access to the instrument for USGS scientists during each service day; providing technical support for a minimum of 8 consecutive hours per day; assigning personnel with a Ph.D. in analytical geochemistry; ensuring that the instrument meets specified performance standards including reproducibility of U/Pb ratios within 3% and Hf ratios within 70 ppm (2σ). The contractor must also provide data reduction services and ensure that all analyses follow established protocols. Period of Performance January 2026 through January 2027 Place of Performance Alaska
