The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) is seeking proposals to support the expanded implementation of the Psychiatric Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) within obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) and family medicine practices throughout New York State. Specifically, the work includes: - Integrating behavioral health services into physical health care settings using the CoCM framework. - Building behavioral health capacity in primary care by adding a Psychiatric Consultant and a Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM) to the care team. - Ensuring the BHCM, with specialized behavioral health training, provides brief, evidence-based behavioral health treatment and supports medication management. - Having the BHCM serve as the primary contact for patients, delivering treatment-to-target care with regular use of symptom monitoring tools. - Facilitating regular communication of patient status between the BHCM, the physical health provider, and the psychiatric consultant to inform treatment changes.
The New York State (NYS) Office of Mental Health (OMH).
The Psychiatric Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) is the most evidence-based approach for integrating behavioral health into physical health care, supported by over 100 randomized control trials over the past two decades. CoCM has demonstrated significantly better clinical outcomes, greater patient and provider satisfaction, and improved functioning for patients with behavioral health needs. In the perinatal population, CoCM implementation has been linked to increased screening and treatment for perinatal depression by obstetric clinicians, as well as reduced depression rates. Additionally, CoCM has contributed to reducing racial disparities in perinatal depression care, with notable improvements in antenatal depression screening and treatment recommendations across different racial groups.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to: - Implement the CoCM in OBGYN and family medicine practices. - Provide specialized behavioral health training for the BHCM. - Utilize evidence-based behavioral health treatment and medication management protocols. - Regularly monitor patient symptoms and communicate findings to the care team.
Interested parties should refer to the full solicitation for detailed application instructions and requirements. Proposals must address all aspects of CoCM implementation as outlined above.
