Background

The Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation District (FCNRCD), supported by the Natural Resources Conservation Council (NRCC) under the Enhancement Design and Implementation Block Grant (EDIBG) program, is seeking bids from qualified contractors for the restoration of a floodplain on Westcott Brook in Franklin, Vermont. The goal of this project is to reconnect the existing floodplain through selective berm removal and strategic wood addition.

Work Details

The project involves the reconnection of an existing floodplain through selective berm removal and strategic wood addition. Key tasks include: 1. Removal of portions of a berm along the left bank of Westcott Brook, approximately 150 feet long, while preserving existing trees and minimizing disturbance to adjacent wetlands. 2. Installation of two flood chutes through the berm on the left bank, avoiding mature trees. 3. Full removal of the berm adjacent to an in-line pond. 4. Approximately 125 cubic yards (CY) of cut material will be generated and wasted at a predetermined location on-site. 5. Strategic wood additions will be installed using logs imported to the site by the contractor.
