Background

The City of Raleigh's Raleigh Stormwater division is undertaking the Camp Pond Dam Reconstruction Project located at 5016 Richland Drive, Raleigh, NC 27612. This project is a response to Notices of Deficiency issued by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Dam Safety. The Camp Pond Dam is classified as a small, high hazard potential earthen dam and is co-owned by four residents. The City is in the process of acquiring permanent easements for full ownership and operational responsibility of the dam, which is critical for maintaining access to the Lakeland Woods neighborhood.

Work Details

The project involves several key components: - Demolishing the existing riser structure; - Grouting and abandoning 14 feet of the existing 36-inch-diameter primary spillway reinforced concrete pipe (RCP); - Installing cure-in-place ultraviolet-light lining in the remaining RCP; - Constructing a concrete headwall downstream of catch basins; - Reconstructing the spillway weir upstream of four 60-inch-diameter spillway outlet pipes; - Removing approximately 57 trees with a diameter of 6 inches or greater; - Raising the dam crest and reconstructing the downstream embankment with compacted fill; - Reconstructing roadway and sidewalk on the dam crest; - Installing 2,200 square feet of riprap and 1,500 square feet of grouted riprap on the downstream slope; - Implementing erosion and sediment control measures per NC Department of Environmental Quality permits; - Developing a control-of-water plan including temporary cofferdams and stream diversion.
