Replacement of Greenhouse Ridge Vent at Brookside Gardens Conservatory - South House

Background

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is soliciting bids for the replacement of ridge vent drive components and the installation of a fully enclosed ridge vent insect screening system at the South Conservatory of Brookside Gardens in Montgomery County, Maryland. This project aims to restore reliable mechanical operation of the ridge vents while ensuring compliance with USDA butterfly containment requirements. This will allow the vents to remain operational during seasonal exhibits.

Work Details

The contractor will be responsible for: 1. Removing existing double ridge vent drive system components, including drive shafting, shaft hangers, rack and pinion assemblies, and ridge vent drive motors. 2. Furnishing and installing new ridge vent mechanical drive components: - Drive shafting sufficient to span the full 62-foot ridge length - Shaft hangers - Twenty-four (24) rack and pinion assemblies - Two (2) new ridge vent drive motors (one per side) 3. Installing a complete ridge vent insect screening and containment system enclosing both ridge vents along the entire 62-foot length. 4. Installing rack penetration sleeves, brushes, or insect sock assemblies at all rack and pinion penetrations to maintain continuous insect containment. 5. Adjusting motor limits and testing the ridge vent system for proper operation. 6. Properly disposing of all debris and materials generated by the work. 7. Providing a standard one (1) year warranty on labor and materials.

Period of Performance

The estimated start date for the project is September 14th, 2026, with completion expected within 90 days of the authorized start date.

Brookside Gardens, Montgomery County, Maryland.

Bidder Requirements

Bidders must demonstrate a minimum of three years of experience in greenhouse construction and systems installation. They must provide documentation proving their experience along with at least three satisfactory references from similar projects completed within the last five years. Additionally, bidders must be registered and in good standing with the Maryland State Department of Taxation and Assessment (SDAT).
