Background The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Network Contracting Office 5, is issuing a Notice of Intent to Sole Source for poison control services to support the Huntington WV VA Medical Center. The goal is to establish a contract that meets the needs of the facility by providing essential poison control services, which have been utilized for several years. Work Details The contractor must provide comprehensive poison control services including: assessment guidance on poison accidents, treatment for accidental poisoning, information on poison prevention, assistance with drug overdoses, management of bites and stings, addressing adverse reactions to drugs and chemicals, toxicity from drug interactions, handling poisonings from drugs of abuse (e.g., cocaine, LSD), spider and snake bites, animal poisonings, hazardous spill exposures, occupational chemical exposures, chronic lead poisoning information, toxic/non-toxic plant information, and educational programs. Additionally, the contractor must offer unlimited calls via a toll-free line staffed by trained registered nurses and provide 24-hour availability to a Physician Medical Director for emergency management. Customized fax transmissions to supplement information provided by poison specialists are required. The contractor will also manage hazardous chemical exposures using Operation Respond software and may attend hospital health fairs and provide in-services or continuing education programs on toxicology topics upon request. Educational materials must be provided free of charge in reasonable quantities. Period of Performance Base Year: July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027; Option Year 1: July 1, 2027 - June 30, 2028; Option Year 2: July 1, 2028 - June 30, 2029; Option Year 3: July 1, 2029 - June 30, 2030; Option Year 4: July 1, 2030 - June 30, 2031.
